De-greasing?
coozer - 12/5/06 at 10:26 PM

Me being to tight to buy Gunk or any other stuff and washing it down the drain I was wondering if anyone uses any domestic stuff to use as de-greasing?

After discovering electrolysis to de-rust my donor parts there must be something nice and cheap to use to de- grease before painting.

Steve,

Do you have relatives in Yorkshire or Scotland

Hows about a gallon of panel wipe?
Or the trusty 'see what you can find in the factory' trick. Assuming the Japs havent nabbed it first!!!!

Darren - Are you suggesting that I'm as tight as a Jock? Doh! no, its just I have always (from my biking days) hated buying Gunk, brushing it on then washing it away! The Gunk people must be laughing all the way to the bank man!!

Electrolysis has shown me a way to fight back and do it old skool without the municiples profiting. Know what I'm getting at??

Was expecting you at our place today? What happened?

Try some washing up liquid, that stuff cuts through grease quite well, plus its cheap.

Depends in what way you want to 'degrease'.

If you want to get the muck off, petrol, white spirit, gunk, parrafin and strong washin up liquid solution all work well. None of these are any good before painting with cellulose paint (or most other paints for that matter) though as they leave an oily/greasy residue.

If you want to degrease before painting then use cellulose thinners, panel wipe, brake cleaner or some other solvent degreaser.
