OK,
I think I have finally lost my mind!!!!
I have been toying with the idea of buying a cheapish TIG welder (the Machine Mart DC inverter type). These also allow you to use them as a MMA
welder.
Here’s the bit where I think I’ve lost it!!!!!!
I already have a MMA welder, and a MIG welder,
Could I convert (make or buy a conversion kit) to turn my MMA welder into a TIG welder, and use the argon bottle I use for my MIG welder?
Cheers,
The Baron
Sadly no The TIG inverters are current controlled a standard MMA is not current limited in the same way as it is simply a transformer. I do not know
of any kind of current limiting device available to put in line with a standard transformer and I would guess these would be as expensive as an
inverter.
I would spend the money on a cheap inverter, I did and do not regret it for a single moment, I really enjoy using TIG almost as much gas and I must
say I do not enjoy arc welding and I am not very experienced at MIG but find it a bit rough and messy, however this is a personal thing as is most
welding.

You use pure argon for mig, how does that work out for you or are you welding stainless?
