One of my engine stud holes has a heap of dried threadlock gunk in it, is there something that breaks it down so I can get the bolt all the way in without stripping the head off?

try a small drill by hand to loosen it then a tap (or bolt with slots cut up the sides) to clean the threads.

do you have a tap you can run down it?

Use just a tap. If you drill it you run the risk if damaging the thread. Screw the tap in a little then unscrew and then screw in some more and unscrew and so on until your happy you have removed the threadlock.

That bolt with slots is a good idea, I haven't a tap because it's a 1.25 thread

Do you have a local fixings supplier? mine has taps in stock for pretty much everything.

I have an extra bolt as it happens so I'll try some slots in that first.

Buy some threadlock remover from Loctite.

Spray on, and watch it dissolve.

If you dont fancy buying that....

If its on a male thread i find a wire brush works well.

if its on a female thread i usually use a dentists pick to take it out of the grooves.
