Hi all,
Just bought my welder, starting to get some stuff together. Just thought i'd ask if any one has tried these
Linky,
do you think they would be any good? I was trying to see if I could get some welding "Sunglasses" but no luck.
Let me know your opinions,
Cheers
Matt
NOT FOR MIG
Those are goggles for gas welding. They dont offer anywhere near the protection needed for arc/mig/tig welding.
Get a UV reative/auto darkening helmet. They arent a lot of money (£50) and nice and easy to use.

Eeek! not unless you want all the skin on your face to fall off!, seriously get a good headshield and cover any bits of exposed skin with clothing i.e
your neck area, otherwise you'll get the equivelent of heavy sunburn.

If its MIG or arc welding then you need full face coverage, and keep all skin covered as the UV rays will give you a loverly sun burn effect. I fall for the V-neck look every time myself.
The thought of the morning after welding with those on is making me scrunch my face up i quite often wear a short sleeve t shirt at work when im
tacking things up and never learn the agony of the shoulders the following day is nasty and the skin falling off a week later not good.
The sun glasses are a bad idea dread to think what it would do to your face very sore
wow . . being new to MIG its a good thing I asked . . there's been no threads on it before so this can pose a warning to any others. Unless it was just me being a plank . ;
Mig, tig and arc use leccy to create/generate the "arc" this melts the steel wire/rod and emits loads of heat and UV light. Gas welding just uses a hot flame to melt stuff and doesn't emit any extra UV at all, so just need some darkened glasses.

Got my automatic one from eBay, best £20 I've ever spent.

My £20 ebay one works well - I even got a free pair of welding gauntlets with it!
