Hi all,
Ive been reading the electrolysis thread - i'm gonna try it out soon but before i start i have a couple of questions:
What are the effects of dunking an entire upright or caliper in there - Will the rubber seals/grease/bearings be damaged?
Can i chuck the diff in there too?
Has anyone got a pic of their electolysis setup?
Cheers in advance.
whooa!!!
First things first, electrolysis is NOT a substitute for reconditioning!!
If you are going to clean the parts then you must surely be rebuilding the calipers, otherwise the cleaning exercise is pointless.....you can't
polish a turd an all that!!!
So, I have no idea what the caustic will do to the seals, but that is irrelevant, because the caliper should be stripped down anyway.
Look at electrolysis as a substitute for shotblasting and you get the idea.
And NO don't put the diff in! (assuming its sierra) it is alloy and will dissolve, as well as not being affected by the electrolysis!
I cant do an ashamed smiley but if i could it'd go here __!!!
sorry, was tired at work!!!
Still all correct though, you don't want to put parts in "unstripped", not a good idea for lots of reasons.
