Anybody know of a mains impact wrench?
the_fbi - 22/1/07 at 09:45 PM

As subject.

Had a look on eBay as normally its a good guide to whats out there, but can't see any.

Failing that, any recommendations for a good value 24v cordless unit?

Ideally I'd get an air one, but still not managed to get a compressor, although with battery impact wrenches being over twice the price of air ones, its highly tempting even for one job....

I had one bought as a christmas present a couple of years back, from woolworths. 12v plugs into the cig lighter with 2 crocodile clips and an adapter for straight to the battery.
bloody brilliant, always manages to get the nuts, bolts off, even when they have been tightened by the air gun at the tyre fitters.
i think it was about £25.00

I'd excluded DeWalt as too expensive, but this seems a good buy.

Not exactly like DeWalt kit is going to fail.

That said, could get an cheap air one and a 50L compressor for the same money, then have access to more air tools too.

Got a driveshaft to change this week on the Calibra so at least one hub nut to do + some locking wheel bolts I've lost the key for. Seems like a good idea to be prepared!

Still, lotta cash for one job.

dewalt kicks ass... £100 for a good impact wrench is quite cheap anyway. I might ditch my compressors soon, im sick of using cold tools! In fact, a bench grinder and a dremmel would be nearly all i need.

Save one for blowing tyres up and a bit of occasional painting Joel, that's what mine gets used for mostly nowadays.

i cant spray, as you say the only remaining thing is a tyre inflator, i may as well get a 12v one and have it with me in the car! Funnily enough when i was getting the compressor i was told that electic is better, didnt listen!

Tyre inflation is a lot quicker with a compressor and you'll soon get the hang of painting with a £20 gravity gun and it's so much fun making things look shiny and new.

That Dewalt looks exactly like the Sealey one I have . It was £160. They`re prolly all made in China. I bought a new Dewalt heat gun and it even smells Chinese
