We have just got a grit blasting setup working at home which we will hopefully be using to blast the chassis before painting/coating it. I was
thinking about trying to tidy up some of the many manky RS wheel I have aswell but am unsure of what media to use. I'm sure it's been
covered before but i can't seem to find it anywhere.
From memory, people mentioned ally-oxide powder. I believe this is what we have a tub of (browny blacky stuff) and when tried on the back of an old
wheel it just seemed a little too agressive and left a rather course finish. I was hoping to be able to polish them afterwards so was hoping for a
slightly less pitted finish.
So has anyone got some ideas. Also heard of crushed walnut but struggling to find a source!
Thanks in advance,
Andy
First do therm with ally-oxide, then re-do them with glass beads. This will leave a fine satin finish. Best bet is speak to your blast medium supplier, they are usually very helpful.
I use fine kiln dried sand, its miles cheaper but makes nasty dust so wear a mask. That leaves a nice fine finish.
I use glass beads in mine, as said it leaves a satin finish. Be careful if you do thin ally panels though as they can distort under the blasting
process.
