Did you know?

A standard cd/dvd fits perfectly in a 125mm angle grinder? Useless I know but you find these things out when you are bored. Just a minute, it's a free backing pad for a fibre disk.

err...

If you shine one of those laser pointers at the disc while it spinning, can you hear the music?

goodall - 24/2/07 at 12:16 AM

yes, yes you can

I've tried putting a cutting disc in my CD drive. Funnily enough it sounds just like it does when it's in the angle grinder!

Strange..... i angle grinded my CD player and it sounded nothing like the CD's i play on it.
However.... the wife did sound like the angle grinder when she got home

Did you not see the Mythbusters when they did this and the CD's shattered sending shards across the room firmly into their balistics dummy!!!

I in fact saw this very program... it was very interesting! All the claims of CD's breaking in their players and particles flying out and injuring people (in the USA). They placed a CD onto a Angle Grinder Spindle and just kept hiking the speed up until it shattered IIRC it was something like 40,000 revs/min. Way over the speeds a typical CD Player can spin... it wouldn't happen over here would it? Eh??

I was just comparing them side by side and realised how similar they were. I have a flexible vinyl backing pad for my fibre disks, ah the good old days of vinyl. Now where's an old 78 to try in my cut off saw ?

78 rpm ? Now that's a proper cut off saw.
