Im just looking at engine hoists and was wondering do i need a 1 or 2 ton engine hoist?
The engine is a 2.9 aj6, its ally not like the old xk's.

The ratings are done with the arm at the minimum extension.

I think the 1 tonne cranes at max extension will take about 250kg and the 2 tonne ones about 600kg.

I would have thought that a 1tonne will deal with your engine perfectly happily!

That engine is quite big and you may need a fair reach so I would go for the 2 Ton

The 1t should do you, but if the cost is not that differant then go for 2t.
Check ebay there is always hoists on there.
Get some chain and shackels or a good webbing strap to go with it.

Dont use blue rope or seatbelts!

nowt wrong with seatbelts! I pulled a car with no wheels out of my drive with a single seatbelt.

I trust my seatbelts with my life, and my blue rope with my washing.

Get the best you can afford, once had a fold up crane fold up under the weight of a Pinto lump. NOT FUN. Also take into consideration the reach you will need with a six cylinder engine. Seatbelts and rope are not up to the job, yes you may get away with it but is it worth the risk?

Just brought a 2 ton crane with load leveler for £165. Thanks for the advice.
