Round tube bolt on attachments thingies

Hi,

I'm after some sort of clamp type thing to attach around my steering column so I can attach my bike switches behind the steering wheel - does anyone know:

a. What I mean
b. What they're called
c. Where I can get some from

Would an Exhaust Clamp be any good?

You could attatch something to the front face of the flat bit that usually hangs down underneath.

Maybe.

I have a friend who said he'd weld a piece of nike handlebar straight onto the column, but I think the metal may be a little thin for that and get a hole blown in it all too easily.

I'm sure someone has done this quite recently, have you tried a search?

I'm searching now, but it's a hard topic to pinpoint!

Something like a solid anti roll bar clamp in 2 halves around the column?

found it for you

O.K. so it was a bit a while back, doesn't time fly when you're having so much fun.

Cheers for that - I knew I'd seen it somewhere before but could find it in the search function!

I guess a steel tub to fit over the sierra column top with a grub screw should do the trick!

Google for shaft collars...robust and plenty of choice.

Thanks - shaft collars are exactly the thing I was looking for (just didn't have a clue what they were called).

£7 from RS Components!

Glad I could help....they are very versatile pieces of kit....I use a lot in my designs (at work), often drilling and tapping them or welding lugs on etc.

StevieB - 17/5/07 at 08:46 PM

My company use RS Components all the time - I love all the little bits and bobs that we get around the office, but never actually get to use anything because I'm a bean counter, so as much as I like to see all the techy bits at heart, I have to shout at people for buying too may!

But, I'm thinking the next order may accidentally come with a few sizes of shaft collar and I won't get overly upset...
