Timing light recommendation
scottc - 16/5/07 at 10:38 PM

Hi,

I'm after a timing light with an advance function. Long story short my project car has only a single mark, being TDC. Ignition timing should be 10 degrees BTDC.

I could mark the crank pulley. But it's only about 5" in diameter, and with the margin of error I'm likely to introduce will end up being somewhere between 5 and 15 BTDC.

or does anyone in Newcastle have one I can borrow?

oh might need a gas tester for a few days too

I reckon one should be able to make one using white LEDs for a couple of quid. LED technology has advance a lot recently so shoiuyld be bright enough.

Just buy a strobe, the middle of the range gunson one has an advance function on. Think they are about £40 in halfrauds, prob cheaper on ebay.

Its not that difficult to mark the pulley, but you will have to take it off to do it accurately.

Thanks Flak,

Did just that. with the advance function I don't need to mark the pulley :-)

I managed to get a digi snap on strobe light off ebay. Fantastic bit of kit. Great investment for £30.
