Can't help you with which direction to turn it but I can reccomend a product!

I think it was Loctite.. its basically a freezing spray, to try and works on the same principle as heating it up, only its much more controled and doesn't damage/melt other surrounding things/

I'm sure i've seen it in Halfords for not sill money £4 maybe, in situations like or where you can't use heat, its probably worth the investment.

I used it to get the Crank end bolt off a Vauxhall XE engine and that was something stupid like 250NM + 90 deg! and like you've said an air-rench wouldn't toutch it!

if it's not turning the engine, try finding somewhere that does commercial stuff with a 3/4" or 1" drive impact wrench.

to get the crank pulley bolt out of a supra 7mge engine, we ended up using an inch drive air impact wrench at evening classes. i'd broken a 1/2" breaker bar and a truck size torque wrench trying to get it off prior to that.

the big impact wrench had it free in seconds

good luck and hth
