Hi all,

have just been contacted by the people we are buying the house off, and they wondered if we minded if they left their old dishwasher behind! We've got one, and the new place has water and electric in the garage.... I see a parts washer coming up!

Any ideas if - firstly would it work, I guess so. Also what would be best to use in it without killing the innards of the machine, but getting stuff clean??

yep, my mate uses his mums quite alot. She still doesnt know!!

Ordinary dishwasher powder and highest temperature seems to do a pretty good job of degreasing most things. Not sure I'd try running a solvent through it - the possibility of rather a large fire springs to mind

Just be careful with dishwasher powder and ally. It is pretty corrosive as I found with several previously shiny ally kitchen gatgets

I recommend Finish Powerball Tablets to go in to it.....

Made a great job of a slightly crusty header tank, but don't tell the wife.

If you have a dishwasher available for 'legal' use I'd say go for it......carefully of course.


Just make sure all the parts are marked as dishwasher safe though, I

Dishwashing metal parts is very good as long as you're careful as mentioned with certain metals and coatings...
You might want to rinse the parts well after washing if you're planning on painting them. The detergents / rinse-aid stuff doesn't always come off fully and could effect the paint.

yep, works great, even better if you can get hold of some industrial hotwash chemical.

Don't know what its called but if you ring an engine machine shop and ask them what they put in their hotwash, they should,prob tellyou.

just make sure you arrange it to pump out into an old barrel so you can reuse it!!
