Drip tray
David Jenkins - 16/8/07 at 12:22 PM

My car has a good old-fashioned x-flow engine, which has the regulation oil drips underneath.

I could make my own drip tray, but I'd much rather buy one if I can. There are some purpose-made ones available through the interwebbiethingy but, although they're quite cheap, the P&P is often huge.

I was just wondering if anyone has come up with a cheaper and readily-available alternative...

Good old Wilko's!

Any idea how big they are, roughly?

I used the end panel off a bath that I was about to throw away. About an inch deep all around and about 2 foot square approx.

Just had a look at the Wilko site - the litter trays may be too deep. It's got to be 4" or less, total depth...

I used a litho printing plate, nice and easy to fold the corners up worked a treat.

Pop along to a local printers David, plenty around they are worth a fair amount as scrap in large amounts but i'm sure on a saturday morning someone will oblige

I have cut round a plastic 45 gallon drum about 2 inches from the bottom.

Slides inder no problem and holds a surprising amount when dropping the oil.

i use bit of old carpet for my over zealous plumbed in central lube anti rust system.

thomas4age - 17/8/07 at 10:19 AM

just cut an old 5 liter oil flask in 2 halfs lengthways leave the plug on, and use the part that has the plug on as the cat-cher makes for easy pouring into something else also.

Think we are moving off topic here a bit, DJ was after a DRIP tray, not something for draining oil into.

Mine does both, but i have a BEC so they dont drip oil

Or have i just cursed myself now!

thomas4age - 18/8/07 at 05:46 AM

You could use that as a drip tray, I did when I had the xflow in.... makes for easy disposal of the "dripage" (never knew what was comming out of that engine)

now I have the 4age the drip tray, only gets used for oilchanges,
