for my 40th today (ouch) got given a parts washer. beyond saying solvent it doesnt say what to use in it... What should I use???
I think petrol or paraffin are popular choices but check that the pump is ok with these first.

My mate used to use kerosene in his, it's not so flammable.
i wouldnt use petrol, in fact please dont use petrol, i used parafin in mine.
to be honest i'm not even sure parafin is ok.
You can get stuff designed for them, but paraffin is probably a better solvent if the pump is happy with it.

I use both petrol and paraffin.
Nowt wrong with petrol like ^^^ suggest as long as you are sensible; i.e. put into small container and work out doors using a brush.
I wouldn't like to put it into some automated washer system that contains a large vloume of petrol sploshing about!
DO NOT use petrol in a parts washer, its asking for trouble, Use one of the many degreasers available such as Jizer or Clarke parts washer fluid . Check your local motor factors

I tried the clarks water based stuff and it was better than nowt - but not much. I use diesel now - great for cleaning but the smell lingers on clothes.
Try Solvu cleaner works very well is waterbased so comes of easily with watter (then ready to weld or watever)
not really cheap but stay active for YEARS!
I have the stuff in it, in an inhouse garage and we can't ever smell it in the livving room (upstairs) so keeps the missus happy aswell

I have alway's used paraffin with a good squirt of dish washer soap in it, Fairy liquid, or similar. Works fine for me. The good thing about it is you can wash it of with water after, bit like home made Jizer, or Gunk. Cheers Ray

i use Unipart Solvent degreaser, £20+vat for 25L.

I got my solvent from the local garage, its a special mix of Petrol and Diesel.
They get it delivered on an Ad-Hoc basis, by customers who inadvertently fill up at the wrong pump
They also heat the workshop with in in their multi fuel burner / heater.
I have topped it up with parrafin and diesel, and it works well.
Also not happy about the petrol content. However, I am aware, and take extra care.
The last lot is mostly diesel so I am happier about it now.
