MIG Welding Gas
John P - 8/11/07 at 10:27 PM

When I got my MIG welder I also got a small industrial bottle of Cougar which has now run out.

I can't get the bottle refilled because, as I understand it, I shouldn't really have got it with the welder.

I don't really want to pay a daily rental so the options seem to be either a disposable canister from someone like Machinery Mart or CO2 from a pub supplier.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Would pure CO2 be more difficult to use than the Cougar mix?

John.

John, where are you? I've got an air products account, if your near I'll get it filled for you.

Could you sign up for a months contract with Airproducts or whoever, and take back your empty once the contract is over ?

Have you got any smallish local welding supplies shops near you? They will often fill them for you.

The pub co2 is a good idea if you have a friendly local landlord.

delboy

Thanks for the offer but unfortunately I'm in Kent.

I understand there is a small welding supplier in the Medway Towns so I'll have a word with them first or otherwise try the CO2 option.

John.

Presumably you're welding your chassis together? dont skimp on the welding it is one area where Locost should give way to Quality, go for an Argon / CO2 gas, a 12 month rental from BOC will cost you less than £75.
