I am thinking about how to offer a Riv-nut tool for hire. But the postage costs are way to much to make it worth doing parcelforce want £18.99 for next day.
Well that both ways + a bit for the hire you can buy a good quality one.

If any one has any ideas on how it could work I would be please to hear them or if people would be intrested.

cheaper courier

i hire or lend out my steering wheel and boss and what i do is just get the person who has it atm to pass it on to the next person as its saves on postage.

there is a company on ebay that will courier most things for 4.99, so that will get postage down a bit but for you to make any money it will be not far off being able to buy a set (ive been looking on ebay and can get some for under £20)

now the cheap ones may not last as well but knowing that i should get enough rivnuts out of them to do everything i need and not worrying about having to rush to get them done or miss any i would buy them, what about getting some cheaper ones for sale that should just about last you for a build.

I have not yet found a cheep one that will do M8 riv-nuts but point taken about the cheep ones. A good one that will do upto M8 is over £125 the next step down is still £70 though I am sure that there are cheeper ones so the need to be able to keep a check on it would be good ( I have had things go missing in the post )

Keep those thinking cap on there must be a way.......

For the number of M8 ones most people need to do, is the mnaual method not sufficient? I am in that boat at the moment - I have one that does them up to M6 (although it is made from cheese!), but I was looking to the few M8 rivnuts the tool-less way. As said, the only Locost method would rely on one person passing to the next, but that only works over short distances. How about a deal with the RivNut gun and RivNuts? Maybe the postage could cover all the free RivNuts you would need?

Yes if i can find a cheep safe way of posting. It is an option.
I was thinking about £10 a week with say 50 riv-nuts free of any size ally or steel but it still boils down to the cost of getting the tool to and from who ever hires it.

As said above, surely most people would just buy a cheap one and then do any large ones with a nut, bolt and washer? I did all mine the latter way but then I've only got about 10 on the whole car.

I have not tryed the nut bolt washer trick my self but have been told by a few people that they have, and have had no joy with it. I will have to have a bit of a play and try it out and see what happens.

hi Jason ,nice idea for the tool hire side of things ,will get back to that in a moment as for the the rivnut tooling i have used some of the most exspensive ones in the aircraft industrie and they break also , so i think the good old nut bolt would be cheaper or see some of the tooling the lads have made on this site .

Getting back to the subject of tool hire ,dont you think it would be a great idea if the members of this sit pooled together and have like a tool store site where for a price they could hire off each other deposites to cover breakagages ext love hear some ideas .

Yes I agree a club pool of tools would be a good thing if we could work out the details of who would hire out there tools and how.
I for one spent a lot of cash on tools when building my car. And i am sure there is a lot of people who have done the same which up's the cost of a build a huge amount. May be people could sell there tool once they have built a car.
May be we need a list of tools that are used and a list of people willing to hire or sell them or even loan them out.

Should we start a new post for a list of tools?

The bloke who lends tools is on holiday, the one who does favours has gone with him. There's always a time when you need something and it's away with someone else which is alright if you didn't need it just at that moment but it soon wears a bit thin if you have to chase stuff round to get it back. If my tools go anywhere I usually go with them or if anything needs doing they can come here and do it.

Yes I know what you mean. I would not loan my tools out.

The last people I worked for supplied all the tools we needed ( and some you did'nt ) all Snap on and still tools went missing or were broken. All we had to do was ask and if it was O.Ked by the powers that be we all would get one so all the tool box's had the same tools in ( and we also had to put them in the same place in the tool box as well )

This is why i was thinking to hire out the tools.
