mad-butcher - 24/11/07 at 08:45 PM

This thing is driving me mad, (power setting 2 switches 1, 2, 3 and min max ) can any-one with experience of above give me some setting for 1.6mm box it is mainly the wire feed setting I am after. I have had some success with 1 max and 2 min on about 4.5 wire speed but it's hit and miss.
hence request for some-one with experience of above machine
nearly forgot .8 wire

many thanks
Tony

I'd have said around 6-7 on the wire speed, is the wire melting back into the shroud ?

Is the tip nipped up tight wire speed about 6 power no 3 for a start then ajust to suit how you like it

Welders all have their little quirks so what works on one will not work on another.
Start off by checking all of the componants especially the tip, shroud and wire pinch wheel.
Once you are sure that there is no problem with these do some test welds on the same size material (scrap) as what you want to weld.
Sometimes you may have your current set too high so start high and cut back until you stop burning through the material (you will also need to slow your wire speed).
You should find a level that does not burn through and also makes a smoother crackle sound.

1 max with wirespeed around 6 according to the manual....

There is a post on here somewhere listing the order of power, 1 min and 3 max are obviously the lowest and highest.

I think the middle settings follow an unlikely pattern. I only have 4 four settings on my 105EN but 1 max is higher than 2 min.

Mine goes 1min, 2min, 1max, 2max.

I also think the current setting accounts for the changes in wire feed, so according to Clarke theory one wire feed fits all. In practice I found a big difference between 6 and 7. I have never used less than 5.5 or greater than 7.5 on 1min to 2max.

I would try 2max and 6 on a straight run down a length of 1.6 box. Two hands on the torch, 9 lens and as close as possible to the workpiece. Fine tune it from there.

EDIT - 0.6mm wire was better for me, seemed a bit slower and more controllable. I also found tight feed roller and loose as possible wire holding spring setting to have a benefit.
