Storing Engine Parts
Guinness - 6/1/08 at 09:27 AM

I have a load of parts from my various blown up ZZR engines / gearboxes that I want to store. Eg gearboxes, crankshafts, cams etc.

What is the best way of storing them? Thinking a coating of engine oil then seal them in a poly bag?

Cheers

Mike

The trouble with poly is that it can sweat/condensation etc.
Try grease proof paper once you have oiled up the parts. You can get it from most supermarkets on a roll.

fine spray of oil and newspaper always works ok. I put them in a bucket or crate once wrapped to stop water from slippages/leaks etc getting the paper wet.

IF you get a big plastic box like

you can wrap the bits in paper / greaseproof after coating them in thick oil (engine oil sounds cheap + good) then stick them in the box with some sachets of silica gel to absorb any water in the box. As long as the seal is okay on the top of the box they should keep for ever that way

Thanks lads.

Off to raid swimbo's kitchen cupboard for a tupperware box!
