After 8 years my FERM combitool (dremel like copy) slowed down in a cloud of smoke and stopped, checked the brushes which were ok and had a clean up but it pretty much looks like the motor has had it.

Looked through my reciepts and it was purchased from scewfix in 2000, not bad for a cheap tool that was probably the most used in the garage and around the home.

I think i will purchase another since a friend of mine is on his 2nd dremmel in the same amount of years.

I paid £24.99 in early 2000 for a kit, i've not looked yet but i think they might be cheaper now.

touch wood my dremel is still ok, but i think james must still be polishing his parents front door with it as I haven't heard from him since he borrowed it lol

I have a £4.99 aldi special still going strong after a year and alot of abuse

I have a dremel, it's one those tools you never think you'd need till you get one and then wonder how you managed without it

used my mates dremel so much on his Westfield Busa.

Grounding and making holes for indicators, lights, boot box finishing etc etc.

Aldi one sounds comedy!

I think i might wait for aldi to get some more in, i had a look at the kit last time and thought it would be a good replacement.

Whippy, your right. I have used this tool the most for sure during the build and after, it has been perfect for fibreglass work cutting/drilling and cleaning small parts. I bought the kit of attatchments from aldi for £3.99 which was a bargain,the mini cutting discs are good as well as the polishing gear.

What time are we observing the minutes silence .

Mine has had abuse from Porting my v8 heads to sorting out panels holes ect. I abuse mine so much that I have its replacement sat on the shelf ( just in case ) £ 9.99 aldi one

I have a small router bit that is very useful oh and the sanding drums.

Sounds like it gave itself a proper viking funeral. Proper way for a tool to die.

My Ferm cordless drill is still doing stirling service after 2 years of graft.

Anyone still sell the Ferm combitool? Hard to find on Google?

I smiled.

My ~4 year old B&D Wizard is still going strong, though it has broken the spring that links the motor to the chuck a couple of times. A simple replacement formed from a bit piano wire and it's back in action.

I was very doubtful of the use of these "toys" but it one of the tools that I will have to replace immediately if/when it goes pop as it's saved my bacon many times e.g. cutting through seized nuts and bolts which are are too inaccessible for a hacksaw or angle grinder.
