Morning guys. Just wanted to know if there is specific kind of tap you have to use to cut a thread in stainless, or will a standard hss one do the job. can someone help me out?

Any good quality tap will do the job.

Probably best to use a stage one tap first though.

Use a cutting fluid and it really helps

HI
USE A GOOD TAPPING LUBE, SUCH AS ROCOL R.T.D.
THE CUTTING OIL MAKES TAPPING MOST MATERIALS A DODLE.

The trick is to avoid hardening the stainless when you DRILL...

Take it slowly and use coolant...

I have found that if you let the stainless get very hard it tends to shatter the tap
