I am having a nightmare getting welding gas. I want to get a big bottle of argonshield or equivalent for tig and can't without opening up a account with BOC or dealing with that other company who's delivery of there smaller bottles is as dear as the gas. I have gone through too many of the disposable ones and its getting expensive! There must be a locost way?

The OP wants the gas for TIG, so CO2 and Argon/CO2 mixes aren't overly useful. The Adams Gas people look like they can supply pure Argon from sometime this month though.

I live in Kenilworth which is near Coventry and I work in Banbury so somewhere near either area would be good.

I did think Argonshield was what I wanted for tig and it means I could also use it with the mig too. Is this not the case?

I keep getting overdue bills from BOC which is driving me nutts, 5 letters in about as many months. They keep asking for the same amount which is the yearly fee and when I phoned up to complain the woman on the phone said 'yeah our system tends to do that...' WTF

worst thing is I'm direct debit so should not even get one bill, I keep checking to see if they have taken more out than they should (they haven't) but I could not knowingly call them up and pay over the phone. I wonder if this is a scam to con big companys who have a lot of stuff on hire???

Try Nuneaton Welding Supplies.

They do CO2 themselves and will set up an account with AirProducts for other stuff. I found them ok when i was getting gas off them. Currently i get the gas direct from them and pay 34 quid for the bottle and 15 quid to refill it with Co2. No standing charge etc If you get argon you'll prob have to use AirProducts and pay a quarterly rental.

They're also open Saturday morning (well used to be) - but if no one is around, get a bacon butty, they'll be up the road in the cylinder store. Give them 20 mins.

now we are talking!!! I have a pub CO2 bottle and I have a mate in the pub game who can make me a double ended hose and another mate who has a BOC account.

This would not be a good idea , a C02 bottle is only under about 800 to 1000psi , argon bottles are more like 3000psi .You need to get an argon or similiar pressure rated bottle and a hydraulic rated hose.
Some one at work tried to do something similiar using compressed air hose and wondered why it burst and nearly deafened them .
