So. I've finally got hold of some 7x13" alloys for my plastic car.
Can you guys suggest a good way of refurbing them?
Almost every one has a bit of corrosion or bubbly paint so I was thinking of using the paint stripper and clingfilm technique to loosen the paint and
wet and dry to get a smooth finish. Then an etch primer and some rattley cans for some colour.
I have thought of polishing them but I'm a lazy get so I'm not too keen on that idea!
Any suggestions? Easy ways? Magic machines?
Cheers in advance!
Grit blasting then power coating?? Too much £££?
Rub them down and rattle paint them.....
Rub down.
High build primer.
Rub down.
paint.
Lunch.
P.S. Speaking to tyre man tomorrow.
Only advise I can give, have all the tyres removed. When you paint them make sure you paint, and laquer, over the bead and into the rim, both sides, as that is the usual place for leaks to occur. HTH Ray
As you suggest, strip with chemicals and paint.
If you get them blasted the rough surface will always look poor unless they use a soft medium.

So you are building an 8 wheeler then??
Clean up any deep scores and fill with metal loaded epoxy, two coats of etch primer followed by two coats of rattle can silver and finally laquer -
works for me every time and is every bit as good as powder coating. You are also able to touch up any future damage too.
I've heard of people using Hammerite smooth to paint alloys
Cheers folks.
I'll be getting the tyres knocked off soon so I can have a good look at the rims. I have access to a Vapour Blast machine but the medium we use
at work is very expensive and as some of the guys at work used over £300 worth one weekend doing homework, the manager insists that we pay for the
stuff we use.
I have a sandblast gun at home but it is really messy so I'll probably stick to the beloved (hated) Nitromors, wirey brush, wet and dry and lots
of paint.
Zilspeed, let me know what were and when!
Cheers again, Owelly.

I have a set for ACB10s and a set of 21Rs. And two vehicles to put them on. I have another one of each wheel coming in a couple of weeks so I'll
also have a spare of each!
And I also have a set of 7x13" Slot Mags coming.....
Some good ideas there. Do you think it will work on my wheels? There should be 4 but i can only find 3
Romax.
I suggest a bit of Autosol to bring those alloys up like new. Then a couple of coats of laquer.
