they come in all sorts off sizes...

I use threaded rod and something like a bit off tube to slide up and down.

Have a look at one on Sealeys site, should give you some idea

dont stand behind it as you pull on the slider because if the end slips then you will know about it! OUCH!! Manhood damaged!!

They aren't very expensive to buy.
