I have had to shorten a length of brake pipe so that it fits. This end fits into the Master cylinder and at the bottom of the aperture the base is
concave. I have a brake falring tool but this flares the pipe to concave also. Will cause a problem with sealing?
Im guessing that I need a double flare to make the end of the pipe convex but I dont want to buy a tool for one usage, (the rest of the brake system
is done).
So what to do?
Cheers
I took mine to the local motor factors and they flared them all for free
That will be difficult for me as the pipe is all fitted to the car and will be a major b*** ache to take out.
Are you sure its should be double flaired ? --
Normally ISO metric brake flares are officially only convex -- ie only one operation to give a bubble dome shape. However I would not expect to
find one on a master cylinder outlet.
With old SAE and Imperial fittings double flares officially exist but are intended for special purposes.
Which tool is it, most of them do single and double flare with the little die removed to make the double. If the pipe is just too long you could put a loop in it somewhere out of the way to get rid of a bit.
Already cut it Pete, should have thought of putting a coil in it! The tool I have will definatly only do one type of flare. It grips the pipe and then
a countersunk shaped tool runs into it creating the flare.
The base if the outlet is countersunk if thats a better discription. The flare I have put on the pipe is also countersunk.
