Guys,
Does anyone have experience with
this kind
of cheap sand blasting guns? I'm looking for something to blast small pathces of rust (max 4 inches dia.) without spending loads on
"proper" kit I'm not going to use more then once a year...
Depends very much on the size of your compressor --- BIG air flow required.
Alternative is a sand blasting attachment for a pressure washer -- much more effective a only reasonable sized pressure is washer required. Only
draw back is because you are using water steel & iron parts will get a light film of new rust almost instantly so dunk them in vinegar
immediately.
i got the same thing from lidl or aldi for £10
Thats a recirculating gun IIRC, which is handy as it causes alot less spillage than a basic gun. I used a basic cheap gun (no recirc) on a small
compressor and for small areas it was more than adequate, but messy.
I also did do a whole engine bay (seams only, ready for stitch welding) with a small compressor setup which took a long time waiting for the pressure
to build back up, but the blasting was effiecent enough.
I've got one but haven't tried using it yet..... Mainly because I haven't got round to getting a full face mask. Even though silicosis is mostly related to using sand I don't fancy a lungfull of the alternatives!!!
Excellent piece of kit for what you describe. It is perfect for removing small patches of rust

I've used the cheap spot blaster from Aldi, it comes with aluminium oxide for blasting steel. It worked quite well. I also used a standard gun with glass beads on the aluminium engine casings which also worked well, although I would recommend doubling up the compressors if you are using the cheap lower capacity ones (also from Aldi). I use two connected together giving twice the capacity and increased flow.
