got to weld 6 1" joints upside down tonight.
Can't for the life of me remember the drill. Seem to have it in my head that i want to speed up the wire feed.
Any helpful hints and suggestions?
have you asked on mig-welding.co.uk?
very helpful forum, if a little less busy than this one.
Would have thought it would be the gas feed that you'd want to turn up a bit....
wear a hat, a fire proof one
I got so fed up trying to weld up bugs upsides down I made a frame to turn the cars over, what a huge difference.

just make sure that the rope around your ankles isnt to tight to stop the blood flow, but not to slack that you slip through, and dont take to long as
all the blood will rush to your head

sorry couldnt resist
The Aussie lads on the forum should be able to give you some pointers.
Are you laid on your back or stood up. I usually slow the wire down a bit and steepen the angle of the gun so as not to get blobs dropping into the shroud and shorting the tip to the wire. Clean it all up well and you should be fine.
Speed the wire up a touch, that will stop burn back and the fusing of the tip with the weld blobs
Definately wear a welding cap and I also put earplugs in as well
Cheers
David

ok, so i did the cooking (made enough for 6 nights so with the chilli i made 5 portions of i'm sorted for nearly two weeks now).....
moved the rucksack upstairs (so thats the tidying done ..... well, i moved one thing therefore its tidier).
Now off to bed, knackered - wondering if i'm coming down with something as i've been like this for days!
Serious earplugs.
you dont want a blob to burn thru your eardrum.
Take extra care.
eeek, wish i'd read this before i did it.
Had the chassis quite high (2" off the ground) so lots of clearance. Did a lot of test welds on the vice, cleaned up the area, bit more gas and
... went for it.
Did some nice welds. Had 1 blob drop, burnt through my jumper, tracked down my t shirt (leaving a burn mark) before it burnt through and left a little
mark on me. Tried explaining to the g/f this was good going and she didn't understand (although she also wondered if i'd actually be hanging
up side down when i first mentioned it so i suppose its not that strange she didn't get why i was happy).
Right ..... now need to weld in a bracket for the roll bar in the rear corners and its roll bar time
