just asking whats the best paint to use when painting the gearbox,diff and other donnor parts.

I don't paint alloy components, just clean them up as paint doen't tend to stick very well to alloy without etch priming etc. Definitely don't spray them silver, they look very tatty in next to no time if you do.

For the gearbox I used some spray engine laquer, simply because I had some handy and it's designed to stick directly to cast iron without priming. I would think most paints designed for metal would be ok.

I use smooth rite now, works quite well but you need to observe the times on the tin
