fitting a speedo end

What do you think are my chances of being able to remove a speedo end fitting from one cable and to crimp it onto an other?

The fittings are metal tubes crimped on with a six sided tool

See below, RH corner - the fitrting is metal sleeve with an aluminium nut on it.

Basically am I going to end up with 2 ruined cables (about a tenner each) or am I better off flogging on ebay and getting speedy cables to make one up?

I've done this before with the cortina but rather than crimp it I wrapped button thread round the two parts then coated the thread in thin epoxy glue to bond it all together much like making a fishing rod etc or my r/c planes

totally bomb proof and permanent, you could use carbon tow if feeling a bit flash

If you score the suface with a file or 40 grade sanding paper it will give the glue better grip

... one good reason is that the collar splits when it is hammered into a cicular shape so it can be pulled off the cable.

Don't ask how I know that.

Should still hold though so all is not lost - let's hope the other cable is same diameter! (think I should have checked first??)
