Morning all

Last night I noticed that i still have a small coolant leak on the pinto. It's seems to be originating from where the hose connects to the automatic choke on the 32/36 weber.

I've gone round and ensured that all the hoses are on properly and the clips are done up nice and tight, could it be that the casting isn't very smooth and causing problems creating a decent seal?

Any tips for sorting this out as even though it's only a small amount it's makes me wonder what it would develop into when the engine is being run properly

son't know what part you mean whether it's a large or small pipe. as mines a bike engine but is it a jubilee or proper hose clip, if it's a small pipe sometimes a jubilee clip won't form a proper circle, try cutting back the pipe a bit.

It's quite a large diamter pipe and held with jubilee clips. One end is fine but the automatic choke end seems to be leaking slightly. I take it that you mean that the end part of the pipe may be knackered and cut it off to try a fresh piece further down? The only problem with that is it's a preformed Ford pipe and if I cut an each or so off the end it then propbably won't reach to connect as it goes round the front of the carb.

Try taking off the jubilee clip and seeing if the where the screw is located is causing a gap i the seal. If you have used an oversized one then then don;t form a proper circle round where the screw is, and therefore don't always seal properly.

This would lead to the small leak you describe.

Worth checking. Replacing it with a proper hose clip would solve this.

thanks, any idea where i can get these proper hose clips, I've seen them in photos but never seen them anywhere for sale.

Hi Nigel,

You can get proper hose clips (sometimes referred to as fuel line clips) from Car Builder Solutions, Vehicle Wiring Products and usually from a good motor factors.

One other thing to check - is the leak actually from the hose joint or from the auto choke unit itself. IIRC the choke mechanism bolts onto the body of the carb - could be a leaky gasket.

there's a majpr motor factors along side the motorway which you get to by the roundabout near you but for the life of me I can't think of the name, It is for just this reason that the SVA don't like jubilee clips on fuel system.
