Being as tight as a Camel's a**ehole in a sandstorm, I've been investigating the costs of Argon for my newly acquired TIG set (cheers
Shug).
Been on the blower to BOC tonight and got some prices. For your delectation I have done too many sums and come to the following conclusions.
Disposables - 9p per litre.
BOC Annual cost - as little as 2.8p per litre depending on size of bottle and whether or not you want to pay monthly or annually.
I reckon for me it'll be a Y cylinder with monthly rental. Up front costs are £79.17 and £7.52 / month rental. Full figures below. To get the
same amount of gas in disposables would cost £455.
I know - I'm an anorak...

Sounds a bit good shurely.

I posted this a couple of months ago, but...
I got a new contract with Air Products. The rep said they were having some sort of battle with BOC and a couple of market newcomers.
Upshot of it all is big bottle of Argon-£21, Coogar-£14, and bottle rental £78/year.
You have to ask for the deal and mention BOC, then they will grab your arm to get your business. Those prices are about 25% of what they used to be!!
Pickup fee( for here on the IoW anyway) is up to £14.
Cheers,
Syd.
Hows the 'pick up fee' work?
Air products are based in Basingstoke so could it be cheaper?
I don't know how the rest of the country works, as far as Air Products is concerned, but here on the island, the agent is Island Pub Gasses.
The 'Collection Fee' is basically a handling charge, or the agent's commission. No way of getting around it down here, sad to say.
Delivery is £35!! BOC is worse.
I don't know how it works if you can collect from AP direct yourself.
Cheers,
Syd.

Air Products as quoted to me today.
The X30 bottle size looks very attractive on a cost/litre basis. Another zil spreadsheet production.
