Hi all i was planning on using a swirl pot on my car ... Unfortunately i have less room than most 7's for putting everything
For a start my swirl pots a 2L so its a bit big to start with
Also it has threads on the inlets/outlets not push on's and connections for them are not cheap at all :O
Basically my question is rather than mess around with a tight fitting swirl-pot shall i just pull my tank out the car and add a sump / baffle to that
instead ? That way i sell the swirlpot and low press pump get some money back ....
Is there any disadvantage between modifying a tank instead of using a swirl-pot ? If im to modify the tank whats the best way of doing so ...
Thanks ....
Most kit car tanks have swirl pots built in these days so you don't need an external one. I believe you need a swirel pot of some kind otherwise your pump will run dry on corners I guess.

My car was built on carbs i have changed to injection thats why it hasn't got one ...
I was under the impression you could modify the tank as an alternative to using a swirl pot ?
cheers
You can weld a sump onto the bottom of the
tank, with the outlet on the bottom
of the sump.A litre will do,its to stop the pump
sucking air when cornering and the engine stopping.
Thats what i did to mine and its fine.

Using two pumps T'd together, one at each end of the tank also works. Not quite as good as a proper swirl pot, obviously, but miles better than just having one, and a lot cheaper / simpler than a swirl pot.
If you fit one to the tank make sure the swirlpot is of sufficient size especially if yo plan to up the engine power. Brother in laws 200bhp zetec ran the swirlpot dry on initial acceleration he had ended up fiiting another seperat pot under the bonnet no issues since
Some cars like the Ford Scorpio have a plastic swirl pot in the bottom of the tank, which you can remove and refit to your own tank. I spot welded mine in but my tank is steel.
Its the Duratec engined scorpio by the way
