roll pins?
ok, this is going to sound really silly...
whats the deal with them? i need to get the side gears out my diff, and the shafts are held by roll pins (i think - its an atlas diff) but i've
never come across them before, so how do they work? how do i take them out? put them back in? can i re-use them? how do i choose the right ones to
replace? where can i buy them?
should i not buy them or replace them? i know atlas diffs need to be set up properly, so should i just let whoever does that put all that back
together?
who around glasgow can put my diff back together properly?

In rough order:
They are a little bit of spring steel rolled into a split tube. (see the link below for a picture)
They're used where you can't have a bolt head or a nut in the way. They work as an interference fit into the hole they live in.
Bash them out with a parallel pin punch.
Tap them in with a hammer, they often have a taper to get them started.
Best not to reuse they cost pennies.
Pick the same size as the one you removed or the size the manufacturer tell you.
Motor factor should have them. You can also buy boxes of assorted sizes.

I'd have the rebuilder do the whole job, that way if it goes bang after 10miles there's less scope for wriggling.
No idea where in Glasgow is good for diffs.

think i'll have a go at taking the side gears out, but let someone else put them back in then
still open for ideas of where in the glasgow area's good for putting the whole axle back together west side of glasgow preferred

one thing ^^^ forgot to mention is that they can be used in a blind hole where ofcourse you punch them out.
In these cases much crying is involved as you attempt to drill them, snapping the drill in the process as they snatch at the bit .
This is followed by even more crying as you watch your wallet get depleted when you take it to the spark errosion guy.
TBH I cannot see why you can't re-use them prvided they are undamaged.

You might have a problem getting someone to reassemble a diff you've already dismantled and give you a warranty unless they replace the parts
with new.
