I got some Argon from them - I made it a day out by the seaside for me & the missus (about 100 miles each way) to avoid the high carriage charges. I think I paid about £45 deposit and £40 for the gas (it's more nowadays). The carriage charges are high because not many carriers will handle full gas cylinders.

The advantages are that it's a one-off payment, so its perfect for someone like me who only uses their TIG rarely.

The slight disadvantage was that the cylinder valve has a side-entry, rather than on the top. This meant that I had to find a 90-degree connector for my regulator. That only cost me less than £10 including P&P, so it wasn't too much of a problem.

The cylinder looked like it had never been used before, and came with a plastic mesh 'bump-protector' sleeve. The service was excellent, although it's an odd little place. I think they make most of their trade selling helium cylinders and party balloons!

Oh - and a major downside - Margate is a dump! Apologies to anyone who lives there, but it wasn't much of a day out for the missus (apart from some very good fish & chips on the seafront). Even the bloke in Adams Gas said there wasn't much to look at!

and there is the rub.

prices from the company in the link:

Refundable deposit per cylinder £50.00
Argon refill £43.00 + vat
Delivery on first cylinder £22.97 + vat

Total price for first bottle £127.51 inc delivery and vat

anyone know what the rental from BOC is? (I cannot find any of that info on their site & and sent an inquiry to them).

and BOC prices:

The smallest size of Pureshield Argon gas cylinder which BOC can provide is:

"X" size cylinder, contains 2.36 m3 of gas, gas cost is £38.35, Environment & Energy Surcharge 90p, annual cylinder rental £58.30

The smallest cylinder of Alushield Light is an "X" contains 2.01 m3 of gas, gas cost is £72.59, Environment & Energy Surcharge 90p, annual cylinder rental £58.30.

Fixed charge for customer collection or exchange at a BOC outlet is £11.35

All costs are stated exclusive of vat and subject to BOC Terms and Conditions.

BOC Cylinders are rented by customers and are not available to purchase.

I assume that BOC will only fill up their own cylinders?
