Does anyone know the correct name for the bit pictured below and where i could get one?

Out of interest, what are these for? Are they for taking off a large amount of material with each pass at the expense of having a rough finish?

Basically, yes.
They are capable of cutting away a lot of material at each pass, but they do need a good, rigid mill to work at their best.
