rent free welding gas - anyone tried it?

as above...

search on welding gas and this thread popped up: WELDING GAS LINKY

looks like a good deal compared to the £100+ a year bottle rental from the likes of BOC. Just wondering if anyones on this or a similar scheme before i phone up and enquire? does it last forever?

Will

At 11 litres, no. You would need very long torch umbilical connected to a gas giant for that.

I have rent free gas from a local shop. It was about £50 from memory to buy a full 2.5kg bottle but then it is £6.50 to exchange when empty. At £12 for a 300g disposable bottle, it doesn't take long for it to be cheaper.

Hi, I took out a deal from a company in Manchester ARC welding supplies. I got a 14 litre argon bottle rent free for £120
all in. When cylinder empty refill is £31. No rental. Still not run out 1 year on.

try Adams gas in Kent £50 deposit on bottle plus about £26 for 9 litres of gas . Major cost is carriage but they have a few satalite dealers up and down the country. You can deal direct and pay for delivery and collection (which works fine as well) We use Oxygen (plus propane) for occasional cutting at work and simply have 2 bottles for continuity. The BOC rental is a killer, but this way you only pay when you use it .

ill give them a call, cheers

Only concern i have is the company deciding 'were not doing that any more' and been stuck with a bottle and nobody willing to fill it! unlikely though, i expect they make a fair bit from refills.
