A chap I used to work with worked on the design of a laser cutter/welder control system before I worked with him (I've jsut realised that we
worked together 20 years ago - 1991!). His was a huge gantry thing (about 20m by 5m layout area)with a 5 kw laser. It could cut 6.4mm plate at
10m/sec, and produced fantastic full penetration welds at about .5m/sec. One time they got the control settings wrong a nd sent the whole gantry/laser
job through the end wall of the building (10m/sec is abot 20mph). Since the video one is about 4 times the power, I wouldn't be surprised if
that was actual sped at full penetration on that block.
