Grinder discs on 6mm plate

Does anyone know if the 1mm cutting discs manage 6mm steel plate? I am weighing up selling my plasma cutter but will need to cut plate in a few months time.

Or, does anyone want a low mileage plasma cutter?!

They cut 5mm plate very easily, so 6mm shouldn't be a problem

Yeah fine, we use them on stainless, phosphur bronze etc etc. Just don't let it get trapped, cos they pop nicely

I used grinder discs on a piece of 10mm plate and used them up very quickly. I ended up using my jigsaw with a metal blade and it cut it very easily (but couldn't do turns very easily).

i bought 50 for 10p each when screwfix had a clearance, so no worries about using them fast!

Cheers peeps.

I'm a bit suprised at the responses as I've been cutting 8mm plate today with no worries and not many discs at all!! In fact, I cut around 5 meters worth of 8mm and used three discs.

it all depends on the quality of your cutting discs

i cut up 4 oil drums in half, i managed to cut one oil drum up using 4 of machine marts finest 1mm cutting discs
then i got my hands on one 1mm cutting disc from my old man that came from where he works (all they do is welding and fab) and cut the other 3 drums using this one disc

so the quality of these cutting discs does differ

i managed to chop through a 3inch thick block of metal the other day with a 1mm erbauer inox disc

I found erbauer ones last no time at all, Bosch ones seem to last about 3x as long. That was cutting grating and 3mm steel angle. Used about 6 to do the first 3m of cuts and one Bosch to do the remaining 1m of cuts and there's loads left.
