Butters AMT1800 Mig - anyone using one ?

As title, have managed to get one on long term loan, but it needs a bit of TLC.
As I have never used a mig before (used to gas brazing previously) need a little help....

I have fixed all the casings and handle, gave it a clean and put a plug on, hey presto switched it on and it has powered up.

I need to get a gas bottle but only want to use a canister, it previously had a garage type large bottle connected, are the fittings the same for disposables?

Also need some wire and as I will mainly be doing 2mm metal and tacking, think I need 0.8, is this correct?

One of the gas gauges is broken and one pretty well bent, will this stop me using it?

If you have one, any chance you could give me start settings for 2mm steel and 0.8 wire ?

Thx in advance

Mines a butters amt Mig 170

Trial an error is best to set it up on some scrap.

On 2mm I would use around Number 3/10 on the feed and number 3/4 on the power for tacking and 3.5/10 on the feed and number 2/4 on the power for laying a bead.

I wouldn't bother with disposables as sold in Halfords ect go for the in-between size of non contract pre paid bottles. There aere a few places local that do them and some advertise on eBay. Its not cheap so get a decent gauge but there is one brand of gas that comes with a built in gauge.

I will send my Boc bottle back when I get around to it. £110 just on the rent this year for one bottle.
