Recommend CNC place
Just a plug for a german CNC place I found on the net and got to make my guage surround: http://www.schaeffer-ag.de/en/
Basically you download the front panel designer and design your object in every detail and then it will give you an itemised quote charging fixed rate
for every procedure ie. machining the edges, adding studs, drilling, countersinking etc and then you can make necessary changes and order it without
having to annoy a real person when you change you mind multiple times or draw silly pictures. I think they go up to 10mm thick so nothing too heavy
duty.
Kind of pricey but alright for one off stuff I guess you pay for the convenience. And they delivered pretty quick too

Interesting to compare prices to protolabs/firstcut in the UK.

True - I did look at protolabs but I think you need 3rd party softward to make a 3d design and send it to them. To put price in perspective it was
about 75 euros delivered for this:
That included the material cut to shape, the edges radius for iva, square hole cut in the middle for lcd screen, 2 round holes for gauges, 4
countersunk holes for mounting, 4 small threaded studs in the reverse side to bolt the lcd screen to.
Now I have no idea if that is a good price or not but I was pretty happy with the simplicity and end result

That's pretty reasonable actually, I'd charge you more than that to do it in my garage!
Yep you need additional software for protolabs but you can use most of the free cad programs to generate a STEP file.
