Auto Darkening Welding Helmet - Any recommendations

For the last 6 months I've been using an auto-dark helmet I bought off ebay - I've been getting more and more frustrated with it as it's always been like welding through fog - you basically can't see squat.

I went back to my original glass weld hat, and the view is superb - once the arc is on!

Can anyone recommend a good quality auto-darkening helmet - preferably NOT from ebay. I'm sick of buying shite chinese imports for prices way higher than I could get them at a car boot.

May be worth checking/replacing plain glass lens, have found in the past my welding improves when lens is replaced, also cheaper than a new helmet. Rusty

I've a translight and has been OK for the (small) amount of work I've been doing. I know of at least 3 other people that have them, and they're also very happy.

The welding supplier near us doesn't have the variable shade ones. I asked for one and he advised against them, says they are crap. I use a 9 in my visor with a North spatterproof front glass both sides of it. Biggest problem I have is dust on the inside or breath condensing when it's cold

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
