Single Post Car Lifts
Hi,
Just wondering what people's thoughts were on single post car lifts?
For example like this but doesn't have to be this brand or make.

Space is going to be an issue in my soon to be built workshop, so this would tick a lot of boxes. It would be used to lift The hot hatch, also a SWB
transit and of course when finished the Seven.
If single lifts are really bad, what two post lifts would people recommend?

If it lifts what you need - i dont see any benefit in getting a two poster.
Didn't realise they were that cheap!

They look really good, I just wonder if I would be scared to be underneath it? 
In a wobbly and single point of failure fashion?

the legs go under the vehicle so some things you wont be able to get at easily like exhaust/gearbox etc.
bloke next to the garage i used to run had one.....it fell over and destroyed the van that was on it,luckilly no-one was around to get squashed.
who cares who wins

I bought an AutoMotech scissors lift over a year ago. (model AS 7530D)
It is a 1 Metre lift model with no restriction under the middle of the car.
Ideal for brake and suspension work and acceptable for oil changes and exhausts.
RWD Gearbox change would be difficult because of the metal crosspieces at floor level.
It is great quality, automatic safety locks, good price and I am very pleased with my purchase.
I made my own bar to support the front of 7's as they are narrower than the gap between the lift plates.
One of the customers who saw it in use bought one online while he was here and others have expressed an interest in also getting one.
As for a single post version, the ones I have used were well bolted down!
and they still swayed.....

I've got the same scissor lift, it's a great bit of kit. I sunk mine in the floor so it's flush, still use the garage as normal
until I need to lift a car, and also no ride height restrictions. Bought mine 2nd hand for £500.

I have an 80's two post lift, my little car lives on its trailer above my tin top all year round, had to modify the roof trusses to get the
height.
1 post is hard against the wall so it's tight to set the feet on wide cars, it's great for everything, by parking on the lift crookedly
you can easily work on opposite corners, for changing gearboxes/axles park straight, pulling engines I sold my engine hoist and just hang a chain off
an arm.
It cost around £400 then £300 for a 6hp single phase motor, needs a 32amp slow blow breaker (runs on cooker wire) on its own breaker.
It's a zippo, 2500 kilo so really strong screw lift, I will never wear it out that's for sure, did need a new nut and has wide feet so I
not scared of it toppolling over, remember your garage may not have a heavy duty reenforced floor so this is a must to spread the load.
My friend runs a garage and got flogged a snapon 2500kg lift, it does not have the quality of these old heavy things, you cannot drill the steel with
HSS bits only cobalt!
Get an old quality lift, far better than the modern stuff for £1000 with wires and hydraulics, just make sure the screws are good.
