Got myself a cheap timing light
Just went to Car Spares to see if they had any timing lights. They didn't but another customer overheard and said he had an old one he
didn't want any more, so followed him back to his house and got it for £2  It's nothing fancy - just an inline light bulb basically but
for £2 I'm not complaining!

I think it is important that you have a go with that light - and then with a real one so that you can see the difference!
It will need to be nearly dark to use that one and you will need to paint the marks with white paint to see them. but with a proper one with separate
power you will be able to time up your ignition in bright sunlight.
Good luck with your bargain though

Yeah I'll see tomorrow just how good it is. My garage is pretty dark so that shouldn't be a problem, so I'll see how I get on...

Even with a decent light it helps to highlight the timing marks with a dam of white paint , a few seconds highlighting can save a fair bit of time and
makes thejob easier .

inline light bulb?? Not a static timing bulb I take it? I presume it has an inductive trigger to fire it!?

I have a cheap timing light I bought years ago and it does need a degree of shade. Always put a bit of tippex on the timing marks and they are clearly
visible - nice little brush in the lid for accuracy when marking, and actually stays on really well so don't often need to recoat.

Well I just tested it out and it appears I wasted £2... all I could see was a white blur where the paint was wizzing past, but it was impossible to
tell which mark was which and where they were lined up. Oh well, back to ebay for a decent one I guess...
