HOw hot should a compressor get?

MOrning folks.

I've just run up a new compressor (Rockworth brand, 2HP, 24L reservoir) and it seems to work pretty well. I was wondeirng though if someone with a similar compressor could tell me how hot the pipe between the pump and resrvoir gets in use?

After about 3min of running (to get to just under 8Bar pressure) the pipe is almost too hot to hold, and I was wondering if that was normal?

Cheers
Andy

Yes

There's a lot of friction going on there. That's why you get condensation in the tank and need traps in the airline.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Have you seen how hot even a bicycle pump gets when worked hard? your compressor is working a lot harder , one of the requirements for big compressors is an unrestricted air supply , not only to feed compressor but also to cool it.

Thanks folks.

I knew it would get a bit warm, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite as hot as it was!

Oooh, another thing I was going to ask, does anyone know what the fitting on this compressor is? It seems to be a brass thing with a sleeve that slides along slightly.

I'm guessing it some kind of quick release thing...

Cheers

I took the ones off that came with my compressor and replaced them with proper PCL quick release fittings. http://www.indanc.com/products_pcl.htm I got mine from the local hardware but Clarkes or similar should have them.
