Aluminium protection
Hi all, I may need to do a little welding around my rear bulkhead and I am affaid that I may melt the aluminium panel, so is there something I can do
to protect it, a paint, spray ect.
Also I may not be able to weld all four sides of the 25mm box only three how much differences will this make to the strength ect.
Thanks again
Jools

if you are worried about heat - one solution might be to try and cool down the ali - the issue would be how much of the metal cooled and then the heat
difference. If you do want to cool it, the plumbing freeze sprays might be effective.
Frosts also sell a head sheild - some sort of heat reflective putty.

It may be called Cold Front. Try your local car paint suppliers? for a similar product

aluminium protection
Thanks for replys, got some freeze spray on order I'll give it a try.
What's peoples view on my other problem of only having three sides of the 25mm box welded up as the fourth side is behind the aluminium
bulkhead? How much differences will it make to its strength?
Thanks
Jools

Overall strength wont be that different but it will be a stress riser. A good place for a crack to propagate from. Also crevice corrosion will be an
issue.

Can you weld a 25mm round in instead?
What are you trying to do and do you have any pics so we can try and think of a better solution?
