Finishing time ?
Following on from Fred's post
What time on a night is it reasonable to down tools?
What do people think fair and what is the law?
I down tools on a night at 9:15 pm at latest but is that too late?
I ask as the build has gone from the odd Sunday afternoon to every spare moment I can grasp much to swimbo's discust and I don’t want an asbo
slapped on me or other repercussions. I get on well with the neighbours one side as he is an ex lotus fiberglasser but the two women the other side
are a different matter.

I think it has a lot to do do with the neighbours themselves as I have neighbours with 2 small kids so I down tools at 7:30 as I know they will be
going to bed soon. But if I had neighbours that I got on well with then probably 9:15 is fine, but anywhere imbetween dependant on your relationship
with the neigbours.

I get on very well with my neighbours both sides, but I don't like to take advantage.
I try to do work that suits the time of day. There's always loads of different jobs to be
done on the car so it's cutting metal with the air nibbler, middle of the day, rubbing
down edges, after tea. (I'm making the side panels at the moment)
Grinder / cutting wheel is a no no after 7 in the evening.
I save quiet jobs for late evenings and fit the noisy jobs in when I can.
This system works for me.

Likewise as paul said, good neighbours and didnt want to take a liberty, lucky for me i am off shift during the week while the neighbours work days
.
I can only remember one noisey sunday and thats when me and the build guru conrodkid dismantled the sierra IRS unit like a couple of animals with a
grinder and some hitting equipment, it was only an hours work though.
I felt worse about stripping an old sierra on a trailer at the side of the house
I never worked after 9pm in the summer and if i can be bothered in the cold months probably 6/7pm when i'm off shift.

I don't normally get into the garage until about 9pm (work and little boy)!! Tahnkfully, we're a good distance from our neighbours so
there's never been a problem.
I used to have an early morning problem when I was competing, as we only had gravel for a drive and my tow car wouldn't make it up with the
Locost on the trailer, so I had to load the Locost onto the trailer on the road, sometimes at about 5.30 in the morning! The neighbours have been fine
about it though!

My neighbours don't really even say hello, never have, they have no idea what I've got in the garge either!
Usually my rule is 10pm for power tools, but I have been known to have no idea what the time is and go on past this on occassion.
beware, I've got yellow skin

Depends ho wim getting on with the job in hand. Sometimes im out after 10. I never do noisey jobs after anout half 8. My neighbours boys are little
feckers and are always banging about quite late anyway.
I just have to assemble it all up for the last time nopw so will probably be out later a few nights.

Never really thought about it. Got very excited the first time we fired up the engine. Had no exhaust on and the blue flames were flying. Then my dad
popped his head into the garage and said 'its 2 in the morning'.
You loose track of time.

I stop making noise at 9 but often worked on well past that.
When porting cylinder head there were a few times i lost track of time and had to stop myself at midnight (compressor noise).
I have great neighbours and large detached garage which seems to absorb some of the noise. Nobody has ever complained and i have made enquiries to see
if i have ever caused them concern.

10pm in the week, midnight at thr weekend, that's my normal hours, but as the sign on the door of the workshop says, "opening hours -
we're here most of the time, except when we're not"

I am lucky in that my friends garage where I am building is next to a car dealers where there is no-one there during the night. And his garage is also
detached from the house as well. However it is very difficult to work properly once the light starts to fade. So I would say work until it starts
getting dark, then go inside.
If I were at home it would be different as my parents are both in bed at around 9pm as my dad starts work at 6 every morning (so up at 5am).
