Cooling system pressure tester DIY :-)
Just built a new cooling system pressure tester, really a five minute job after I figured out what odd bits lying about the shed I could use. Not
rocket science but it can be used for most cars with engines that use 8mm hose on the coolant bleed system such as Ford Zetecs and Rover K.
Parts required
One surplus airline tyre inflator -- cheapo kind that comes free with compressors
One cast off garden sprayer -- nice bit about using this is the safety valve on these blows at 20 psi which will protect the radiator from over
pressure
One 8mm Tee plastic connector (From B&Q)
75mm of 8mm bore cooling system bleed. hose.
A few small hose clips
An airline hose connector.
It can be use dry or if the sprayer is filled with coolant a proper hydraulic test can be done.
Using it is simple just use the tee to connect on one of the engine bleed hoses and pump up the pressure until the presure cap is almost ready to
vent. Pressure testing only really works on a stone cold engine - on a hot engine any small leaks will flash off in vapour and won't be seen,
and if the engine is above ambient temperature any cooling will prevent monitoring the a pressure drop test over a period of time.

That's very complicated... I wedged an old tyre valve in a wine making bung and jammed it in the neck of the expansion tank... the bung shoots
out out much above 1 bar and protects the system from excess pressure (and makes one poo oneself  )
PS... I'm not the kind of guy who uses the word 'poo', it was substituted in for the word the kind of guy like what I am would use
used.
