Stainless, is 308L or 316L rod ok for welding 409?
I've got a requirement to plug a EGR vent on my exhaust.
I was planning to buy a M18 x 1.5 tap and simply stick a normal Lambda/EGT bung in it, but taps aint cheap (just so happens the pipe is 16.5mm ID) so
scrapping that idea.
Was going to take it to a company we use at work to get a plug tig'd onto the end, but they're too busy.
Woke up this morning and realised I could just buy some stainless arc rods and do it myself. Only problem is that the pipe I'm pretty sure is
409 (appears the same as the flange which i know is 409, although the runners are definately not 409).
Looking on eBay for some rods, it seems they are all 308L or 316L. How does that compare with 409? ie. will it do the job?
Advice appreciated.

316 will be fine, but if you are buying them from ebay, you could get some 312 rods which are dead useful to have in your collection as they will weld
anything that can be welded, cast iron through to high alloy steels.
Flak Monkey gave me the contact on ebay to get em from.
