TIG welding tips

Hi all dose anyone have a good link or links on techniques how to use a tig welder
welding with steel / aluminium

The advice I was given is as follows:

Run the gas so you can just feel it on you cheek.

With steel angle the cup so you can see the work. Nice sharp tungsten (red)

With ali have the cup at 90 degrees to concentrate the heat. Tip of the tunstan will ball (white)

Before you start set out get comfy, first project is to build a table that you can sit in front of and rest you elbows when welding.

Melt the work, move the torch back slightly and feed the rod into the molten pool, then move forward and repeat.

Then its just practice practice practice, followed by more practice.

For myself I find a wp20 torch to be best, this is a small torch, water cooled version of the wp9. You can get them new for around £45 and make a water system using an old central heating pump and tank.

It makes life much easier because its is far lighter and more flexible.
