Variable speed
I need a variable speed drive, in my workshop.
I had the idea of using a cheapo corded drill. this would be perfect speed and power except I dont want a trigger type sprung return switch, i want a
"stays where you put it" rotary switch. a bit like a dimmer switch.
would i be able to swap the trigger for a suitably rated rotary switch or something

How about a cam or a screw thread actuator onto the trigger?

You could use a dimmer switch if you can get one of a high enough rating.Otherwise it should be possible to replace the trigger switch with a
potentiometer.

What about using a G-cramp on the drill switch?
Just tighten to go faster!

Some Bosch drills have a lock on button, and the trigger has a disc that you turn to adjust to speed required, that should do the job. HTH Ray

i thought about a lot of those ideas, i think im going to take the crazy strong return spring out of the trigger and attach a lever to it.
for anyone thats interested its for an electric automatic feed for my new lathe
EDIT
Success, i managed to take apart the trigger switch and remove the spring, i will attach a lever and the switch will now stay where i put it

Use a pillar drill with a high wattage dimmer type usually fitted to halogen upllighter.
